Tips For Holding A Special Event In A Castle

If you're looking for an event venue that will make you feel like a king or queen for a day or night, as well as wow your guests, consider a real castle—such as Castle Waterford. Whether you have a castle venue in your area, or you have to travel a bit to get to it, it's sure to make a venue to remember.

A castle venue, whether it's historic or a newer structure, will provide the ultimate backdrop for any kind of fairytale-inspired event. For an even more realistic feel, you can request that guests arrive in period costumes.

Castles make a stunning setting for almost any type of special event or occasion, such as a young girl's princess-themed birthday party, a family or corporate holiday gathering, a bridal or baby shower, a romantic Valentine's Day, anniversary soiree, or wedding reception. Both the celebrants and attendees are sure to feel like royalty throughout the duration of the event.

During busy times of the year, such as spring and summer, book the castle as far in advance as possible to ensure its availability. If you need any special accommodations, inquire about them then as well.

Here are some additional tips for holding a special event in a castle venue:

1. Castle with a View

Although castles with their ornate features are eye-catching enough, many feature sweeping mountain, ocean, garden, or vineyard views as well. If you're planning on holding the event both indoors and out, go with a castle with a view if possible.

As one idea, hold a wedding ceremony indoors under the sweeping ceiling and ornate beams and have guests dance the night away on an ocean-view balcony or in an enchanting garden. If the weather turns inclement, you can move the party back indoors.

2. Catering Options

Some castle venues offer in-house catering, which may save you both time and money. Staff will bring your selected menu items directly to the castle's dining facilities, so you don't have to worry about transporting the food to the venue.

When selecting an even menu, consider going with a themed lunch or dinner to add to the overall ambiance. For instance, you can go with a Medieval-inspired dinner, complete with an appetizer spread of meats, cheeses, nuts, olives, flatbreads, and dried fruits including dates, cherries, apricots, and figs.

For the main course, a selection of roasted meats and vegetables would be appropriate, and adult guests can wash it all down with mead, ale, or wine.
